Crash Landing on You, 2019's hit K-drama which got fans talking and tongues wagging, and won the world over, is about to get a musical adaptation.
For the uninitiated, Crash Landing on You (also known as CLOY) tells the story of star-crossed lovers Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin), a South Korean chaebol (a large family-owned business conglomerate) heiress, and Ri Jeong Hyeok (Hyun Bin), a member of the North Korean elite and a captain in the North Korean Special Police Force.
One day, Yoon Se Ri goes for a short paragliding ride in Seoul, South Korea, when a sudden tornado knocks her out and she is forced to make an emergency landing in the DMZ in North Korea, an area forbidden for South Koreans. She then meets Ri Jeong Hyeok who eventually gives Yoon Se Ri shelter and develops plans to secretly help her return to South Korea. Over time, they fall in love, despite the divide and dispute between their respective countries.
The K-drama was so wildly popular that it became tvN channel's highest-rated drama and the second-highest-rated drama in Korean TV history, its monumental success largely owing to its cleverly picked lead cast, both Hallyu stars with immense popularity. Its theme also had mass appeal–rich girl and dashing soldier in an unorthodox love story–a tried-and-true K-drama formula. Even the show's OST topped all of the Korean music charts.
Crash Landing on You's fame soared when it was revealed that Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin (#BinJin or #Riricouple to fans) are dating in real life and fans simply couldn't get enough of the power duo. So it comes as no surprise that its production company Studio Dragon would want to continue to milk it for its worth.
