Despite coming from different backgrounds with individual stories and life challenges, the exhibit "KASIBULAN x Jigs" together with Imahica Art creates an opportunity to showcase women's shared experiences of pain, loss, happiness as well as victory

Women with different backgrounds, stories, and life challenges will come together from October 1 to 15 as Imahica Art Gallery presents the group 'Kababaihan sa Sining at Bagong Sibol na Kamalayan (KASIBULAN)'s exhibit as a tribute to their colleague Yasmin "Jigs" Almonte who survived cancer and had undergone at least 10 operations in the past.

It can be recalled that Jigs' face was operated on after she was diagnosed with a very aggressive stage 3B cancer that ravaged her jaw, cheek, molar and parotid gland. "It's a tribute to Yasmin's courage and verve for life, continued creativity and productive in art; in spite of her advancing cancer of the jaw, where she has had at least 10 operations already," says KASIBULAN artist Imelda Cajipe Endaya.

The depiction of the feminine experience comes in myriad forms—the abstract images of Rebie Picazo Ramoso, the divine feminine and communing with nature from Eden Ocampo’s artworks, the environment in the works of Elaine Lopez-Clemente and Rara Carillo, the tenderness and capacity of women in Julie Lluch's sculpture, and the symbols of womanhood and feminine strength in Imelda Cajipe-Endaya's multi-media assemblages.

The KASIBULAN artists are united with all women in their shared feminine experiences and sentiments. This exhibit is also an expression of the collective love and solidarity towards their beloved sister and fellow artist, Jigs, whose anguish is expressed in her hauntingly beautiful abstract paintings. Her life and artworks are proof of how one can be triumphant in turning torment and suffering into joy through friendship with her loving and compassionate sisters in KASIBULAN.

"KASIBULAN x Jigs is not only a celebration of women in the arts, it is a celebration of women's sense of community, camaraderie, love, hope, and faith in each other," says Imahica Art Gallery.

The show will run from October 1 until October 15, 2022, at 2-A Lee Gardens, Lee Street, Corner Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
