Wong Ping’s first major solo exhibition in the UK further proves why he's earned a coveted spot on the 2019 Generation T list
Today, Hong Kong artist and 2019 Generation T honouree Wong Ping opens his first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom. The show, titled Wong Ping: Heart Digger, features a series of Wong’s signature seductive animations and installations, and will run until September 15 at the Camden Arts Centre (CAC).
Last year, Wong won the inaugural Camden Arts Centre Emerging Arts Prize, which was created by CAC and Frieze London to nurture and celebrate emerging artists. The winner gets the opportunity to stage a major show at CAC.
Wong earned a spot on this year’s Generation T list for representing Hong Kong youth with his boundary-breaking art, which examines societal problems and explores themes of politics, power, violence and repression.
Viewers are sometimes uncomfortable or amused when they first watch Wong’s animations, many of which are sexually explicit. But critics have praised his fearlessness in tackling taboo topics and questioning social norms.
