Pat Fok, internationally acclaimed photographer, will be launching her latest exhibition, Journey of Light, at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on July 15, 2015. Coinciding with the exhibition is also a new book of the same title, from where 30 of the photographs on display at the exhibition have been taken.

Published by Assouline, Journey of Light is a retrospective tome that takes in more than 40 years of Fok’s life work, and is her sixth publication. Her last exhibition in Hong Kong took place four years ago, featuring photographs taken during a decade of travel; in this latest offering, Fok presents a breathtaking collection of images centred around the beauty found in the natural world, from holy mountains to sacred rivers, taking in more than 20 countries. The second half of the book is decisively more abstract, playing on the concept of unexplained phenomena as seen through the prism of photography.

With Journey of Light, Fok explores the melancholy of recognising that so much of the world’s beauty is ephemeral, living on only in the printed image – as such, proceeds from the sale of the book will be supporting UNESCO’s work in Nepal, which has sadly come to represent the frailty of human existence.
