The group exhibition brings together notable works collected by four eminent female collectors and goes on show from February 6

Duddell's, one of Hong Kong's leading cultural and social destinations, is holding a group exhibition, Curve of Buoyancy from February 6, 2021. The group exhibition will showcase 16 artworks collected by four eminent female collectors, Mimi Brown, Karen Levy, Li Lin and a private collector. It will offer a rare glimpse into the personal visions that shaped these collections.

Curve of Buoyancy is curated by local curator and Feng Shui practitioner, Zoie Yung. The exhibition's title is inspired by American abstract sculptor, Wendell Dayton's For Calder (1975). The name also draws inspiration from the curve, a timeless visual motif that has been prevalent in both historical and contemporary times.

Renowned significance of the curve alludes to the exploration of the shifts of contemporary society, human connections and identity—themes that fittingly resonate with the challenging times brought about by the pandemic.

"Staging a thematic collectors’ exhibition has always been the crux of Duddell’s annual art program. I'm immensely proud of our hosting Curve of Buoyancy, which showcases prominent works collected by four esteemed female collectors. I feel that there's not enough stress on the importance of female collectors and their devotion to art so I'd like to demonstrate the influence that female collectors have contributed to the art world through this exhibition," says Alan Lo, co-founder of Duddell's.

One of the patrons, Mimi Brown, founder of Hong Kong-based arts space, Spring Workshop, will bring the works of Cui Jie, Kki Smith, Ming Wong and Wu Tsang & Boychild from her collection.

Karen Levy, co-owner of dslcollection, will loan two works by Chinese female artists, Guan Xiao and Ma Qiusha for this exhibition.

"We share with the same passion with Alan Lo for art and we cherish our friendship. Duddell’s represents excellence in hospitality, creativity and design. These works show the diversity and strong creativity of Chinese video arts. We are very glad to show the collections in Duddell’s," says Levy.

Meanwhile, Li Lin, founder of JNBY Group, will present works by Melvin Edwards, Alijca Kwade, Zhang Enli and Wendell Dayton—the same artist that inspired the exhibition's title. "Alan and I have been friends for a long time. I was very interested in the show when Alan told me about it, so I selected a few artworks that I thought were fitting for the theme. In terms of my aesthetics, the beauty of artworks lies in form but also not limited to it. For some people, a piece of clothing is like a minimalist form of a building," says Lin.

Finally, the private collector's contribution includes work by female artists, Phyllisa Barlow, Annie Kevans, Barbara Hepworth, Annie Morris and Alex Prager.

Curve of Buoyancy will be on view in the Duddell's Salon and Library from February 6, 2021 to June 20, 2021 with free admission.
