The Central space is proud to feature additional works from the M K Lau Collection for two exhibits. The first will be “Mesmerized by Ink: Two Hong Kong Masters” which will be on show from now until late 2015.

Co-curated by the renowned Catherine Maudsley, the first exhibit will feature important works by Ding Yanyong and Lui Shou-kwan, two distinctly influential ink artists.

Ding Yanyong earned his reputation as a leading art figure in the New Art Movement of introducing Western Art into China. His work is often viewed as bridging the gap between East and West, a synthesis of two great artistic and often-contrasting traditions.

Lui Shou-kwan is well known for his transformation of traditional Chinese painting into a modern form evident from his distinct, bold brushwork often rooted in symbolism such as his heavy use of the colours: black and red, a reference to Buddhist and Taoist meaning.

The second exhibit is aptly titled “Just as Mesmerized by Ink” which will be exhibited, between September and November. Located upstairs in the Duddell’s salon, it will feature work from some of Hong Kong’s most noted artists, including Irene Chou, Koo Wei, and Wucius Wong; all of whom studied with Lui Shou-kwan and explored a range of subjects.
