Now in its 20th year, the annual event returns from November 30 to December 3 to explore how good design can reshape spaces and enhance life
This year, the Business of Design Week (BODW) Summit will address the theme Design for Change and explore how design can be used for good, especially in the context of the challenges brought on by the pandemic and how they have forced industry experts to forge new ways of thinking and execution. The four-day summit at M+ Museum in Hong Kong will bring together more than 90 leaders from 14 countries to participate in over 35 sessions of panel discussions.
"Another cause for celebration is the fact that we are able to finally bring some of our international speakers to Hong Kong for the first time since 2019," says Professor Eric Yim, chairman of the Hong Kong Design Centre, which organises BODW. "While we have made the best of the situation over the past two editions through a hybrid format, we are certainly looking forward to meeting our speakers and the audience in person at M+ this year."
Eminent designers and industry leaders will cover a broad range of topics, from planning for new and sustainable urban spaces and reimagining Asian design to exploring the potential of the metaverse and metaliving.
Some talks and speakers to look forward to include Marisa Yiu, co-founder of Design Trust, and Guy Salter, chairman and founder of London Craft Week, who will discuss the blueprint of creative placemaking; Billy Tang, curator and executive director of arts centre Para Site and Christopher K. Ho, executive director of Asia Art Archives, who will talk about the future of non-profit art spaces in Asia; and Adeline Ooi, director of Art Basel, Asia, and Gillian Howard, founder and global fair director of Digital Art Fair, who will speak about technology in art and creative digitalisation.
The sessions will be streamed online in English, Cantonese and Putonghua with simultaneous translation—so even if you can’t attend in person, you won’t have to miss out.
