Based on feedback from more than 50 women around the world, Netflix has put together a collection of shows under the banner ‘Because She Watched’, an initiative with UN Women in celebration of International Women’s Day this month
Salma Hayek picked Unbelievable, a crime drama about a serial rapist, because “it’s a meaningful piece of work about the importance of women being heard.”
Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown chose the Taylor Swift documentary Miss Americana because “it follows a true story of a woman trying to navigate a difficult industry” while star of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Lana Condor went for Grace & Frankie for “championing the idea that women can be vibrant, active entrepreneurs at any age. And it celebrates the importance of female relationships.”
ICYMI: The Ghost Bride, A Made-In-Malaysia Netflix Original Series
These shows are part of the streaming service’s ‘Because She Watched’ collection that tells women’s stories and shows women in all their diversity. In Malaysia, Netflix has approached writer, actress and journalist Fatimah Abu Bakar and these are her choices:
Babies
“The docuseries lets us peep into the mysterious world of these complex little human beings. I’ve always wondered what goes on in her mind when a baby smiles or stares into the space. It helps to explain some of the mysteries of what babies are all about and just how wonderful they are.
It also shows how both parents are immensely involved in the process of raising and caring for them, and drives home the message that fatherhood is just as deep as motherhood.”
