Southeast Asia’s most selective and largest art fair to date, Art SG is set to be the meeting point for international galleries and collectors from the region during Singapore Art Week 2023

Some of the world’s biggest art galleries, including New York-based Gagosian, Lehmann Maupin and Pace Gallery; Paris-based Perrotin; and London-based White Cube have confirmed their participation in the inaugural edition of Art SG—with some of them showing in Singapore for the first time.

The new, long-awaited international art fair is set to take place from January 12 to 15 next year (with the VIP preview on January 11), at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. This is good news for art collectors and connoisseurs here, after several postponements to the fair, which was first announced in 2018.

Joining them are local galleries such as Fost Gallery, iPreciation and Yavuz Gallery, which will be among the over 150 leading galleries from 30 countries bringing the best of contemporary art from Southeast Asia and around the world.

“The scale and calibre of our inaugural exhibitor list demonstrates a strong commitment and shared belief in the importance of the art market in the region,” says Art SG co-founder Magnus Renfrew. The fair is organised by The Art Assembly, founded by veteran art fair organisers Renfrew, Sandy Angus and Tim Etchells, and presented by founding and lead partner UBS.

Alongside the presentation of internationally renowned galleries, Art SG will also present three specially curated sectors: Focus features galleries presenting solo or duo artist programmes, or thematic presentations; Future supports young galleries under the age of six years; and Reframe highlights galleries presenting new experimentations in digital art and works on the blockchain.

There will also be large-scale site-specific installations, a curated film sector, as well as talks.

“We believe the launch of Art SG will crystallise Singapore’s position as an exceptional cultural venue within the international art landscape,” says Art SG fair director Shuyin Yang. “Through bringing the international art world to a location closer to home, Art SG will not only invite the world’s leading collectors and art leaders to experience Singapore and all that the region has to offer, but also encourage a new generation of emerging collectors to be inspired by the rich diversity of art immediately at our doorstep.”
