Launched today, ART Power HK offers a creative solution to the current situation in the city, showcasing that the arts in Hong Kong are open, active and resilient

ART Power HK is a non-commercial and collaborative campaign that has grown organically from a community-wide desire to maintain momentum for the arts in Hong Kong. Offering a globally accessible online platform that highlights the vibrancy and diversity of the arts in Hong Kong, ART Power HK shows that the arts in Hong Kong are open, active and resilient–along with creating a moment to unite and celebrate the arts with exhibitions, events, and other activities hosted by partners throughout the city in May 2020.

Launched on a day that would have been a highpoint in the city’s Art Month calendar–which this year has been immensely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak with a number of events cancelled–ART Power HK supports the arts community by taking their activations online. Through March, April and May, the campaign will congregate and amplify arts initiatives taking place in the city, supporting both art activations that are going ahead, as well as utilising tech innovations to allow partners to take their show to a wide online community. The campaign will showcase how conversations that engage and excite can be delivered both online and offline.

Powered by the strong content provided by its partners, the platform will feature pre-recorded and live-streamed gallery tours, artist interviews, studio visits, collector engagements, an online talks programme featuring local and international talent and more.

Looking to act as the catalyst and anchor for a new moment for the arts in Hong Kong in May 2020, ART Power HK plans to leverage the online momentum garnered by activations in March and April into a comprehensive (and in person) celebration of the arts across Hong Kong that brings together talks programmes, exhibition openings, international auction house sales, open days, tours, VIP events and workshops.

What’s more, The ART Power HK Online Talks Programme will focus on the arts community in Hong Kong and feature spokespeople from ART Power HK’s partner organisations, and the stakeholders that support them. Talks will take place weekly on Thursdays and be livestreamed from the ART Power HK Platform. You can sign up to “Be in the know” online now and receive updates on the talks programme.

Already garnering wide-ranging support, ART Power HK is inviting and welcoming all stakeholders in Hong Kong’s art community to get involved. Confirmed partners from across Hong Kong’s art ecosystem include galleries, museums, auction houses, not-for-profit organisations, educational institutions, corporate sponsors of the arts and cultural media outlets.

As an organically grown not-for-profit campaign, ART Power HK also will also rely on the generous support of the community to fund the initiative. Asking “How much is the arts worth to you?”, the crowdfunding portal is now live.
