As the local multi-disciplinary artist puts his past and present works on display at Ion Art Gallery, don’t miss your chance to bring home some of his most striking artwork.

Taking over the Ion Art Gallery from now till 2 March is local contemporary artist, Jahan Loh’s solo exhibition, B-Side and Rarities. Loh, who was named as one of the top 30 most influential Chinese personalities in 2009 by China’s leading youth magazine, Size, is one of the few Singaporean artists to have collaborated with big brands such as Adidas, Vans, Sony and Samsung to create special collections and merchandise.

The multi-disciplinary artist has also displayed his work at galleries around the world from USA to China. Loh has always been known for his passion in arts, specifically graffiti, which is why it’s no surprise that many of the pieces you’ll see at this exhibition have that influence via the use of spray cans.

On display are selected pieces that Loh has worked on over the years, including the 2011 Cherry Poke: Reconstituted Philosophies series that centres around the theme of Asian canned food; as well as Working Class Hero which features familiar comic characters, like Thor and Wizard of Oz, to spark narratives and themes that are Singapore-specific.

“Art has always been the heart of design, fashion and pop culture but not many are aware of how evident its influence is,” says Loh. “With this pop-up exhibit, I wish to cultivate an understanding of the influence of art in modern living by providing an exclusive peek into the mind of an artist and by juxtaposing actual art pieces with corresponding commercial merchandise.”

Also on display are some of his past commissioned works with internationally renowned deejay and music producer, DJ Tommy; there’s even a replica of Loh’s studio to give you a glimpse at what happens behind the scenes; as well as a line of exclusive merchandise that includes limited edition tee shirts and totes with prints of Loh’s designs.

If you’re interested in getting one, or more, of his eye-catching pop art pieces, act fast because this is the last week to do so.
